Auglaize County is still in need of poll workers for the upcoming general election on May 6.
Board of Elections Director Michelle Wilcox said the staff as already had to move around and shuffle people in order to get the right amount of republicans and democrats at each polling site.
Deputy Director Peggy Matheny said this year she has seen more republican poll workers cancel out on her than democratic workers, which is a blessing in disguise because usually the democratic party is not as vast as the republican party is in Auglaize County.
Chairman Fran Engle brought up the option of offering polling positions to high school seniors who might be interested, but many pros and cons to that idea were voiced by board members.
“It seems that the students were much more attentive and alert,” Engle said. “They were much more exacting and I think it’s great for them.”
