Councilors discuss park land concerns

August 28, 2014

Representatives of Botkins Community Club addressed council members during a regular Botkins village council meeting Tuesday to discuss concerns over land ownership at Botkins Community Park and Cole Field in front of Botkins Local School.

Community Club Vice President Keith Buehler informed council that they were approached by the school board to put a shed on their land at Botkins Community Park.

According to the school board minutes, the Botkins Community Club agreed to allow the building on their land. This building, to store track items, will be moved after the harvest.

Former Village Administrator Jesse Kent said the issue was not as simple as a storage shed, noting that there is a need for permanent infrastructure at the park.

“The issue is a larger discussion,” Kent said, “and the larger discussion has been going on for over a year and a half of where at some point, is the Boosters, the track committee, the school — whoever, whenever, wherever — going to put up a permanent storage area, permanent bathrooms, permanent concessions, additional parking, etc., etc.”
