Entertaining a light agenda, Wapakoneta City Council heard a proclamation and discussed five ordinances.
A college student, Albert Sakowitz, of Westbury, N.Y., read a proclamation honoring Neil Armstrong and designating July 7, 2014, as Neil Armstrong Day.
A student of history, especially aviation history, Sakowitz is proposing that several sites within Wapakoneta be considered from national historic site status.
“Fifteen minutes from where I live is where Charles Lindberg took off on his historic flight,” Sakowitz said, adding that that site is now a shopping mall.
“Part of that area is a grassy median and I fought to have that site designated a national historic site.”
Sakowitz said he wrote up a feasibility and submitted it to Representative Jim Jordan, R-Urbana.
“If this legislation is passed, it would lead to a feasibility study to explore various sites in Wapakoneta for designation as national historic sites,” Sakowitz said. “A few sites suggested for inclusion are his boyhood home, schools he went to, the church he attended and the museum.”
