CRIDERSVILLE — A village councilor with a family history of serving and helping a local village has submitted her resignation.
Long-time Criderville Village Council member Beverly Wood submitted her letter of resignation and will no longer be serving as a member of the village council, Cridersville Mayor Lorali Myers announced during Monday’s council meeting.
“She has brought history and background and has a balance of wisdom and truly loves and adores the community,” Myers said. “She stood up for people in the village and she has been a legacy. She is just one of her family members who helped run the village.”
Wood and members of her family have been serving and helping run the village for more than 70 years.
“Her family has put forth 70 years of service to the village, and she has been on council for 20-plus years,” Fire Chief Ron Mertz said. “This is the end of an era.”
Myers expressed that she was sad to see Wood leave council and said she will truly be missed.
The mayor said that Wood decided to step down from the position to spend more time with her family.
Wood was absent at Monday’s meeting and her resignation took effect on Monday.
Council members approved Wood’s resignation, and now they have 30 days to fill her position on council.
Cridersville residents may apply for Wood’s council seat and can do so by sending in a resume.
Council will accept resumes until Oct. 19, and councilors will review them on Oct. 20 and conduct interviews on Oct. 25 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
They plan to host a special council meeting on Nov. 7 to announce who will be taking over the position, and a Committee-of-the-Whole meeting will follow.
