City Electric Department honored by AMP

November 12, 2011

A wholesale power supplier and services provider recently honored Wapakoneta administrators and city Electric Department employees for their work during the past year.

Wapakoneta Mayor Rodney Metz shared American Municipal Power Inc.’s enthusiasm for city employees work on replacing lines throughout the system and installing new substations.

“I am very proud of the Electric Department and the awards they received for their performance and work on the city’s electric system, taking care of the system and upgrading the system as well as their safety record,” Metz said. “I believe they are doing an excellent job ensuring their own safety on the job as well as taking care of our customers, who are residential, commercial and industrial.

“They are all equally important in our eyes and the eyes of the Electric Department employees,” the mayor told the Wapakoneta Daily News.

The city’s Electric Department Superintendent is Donnie Schnarre, who took over for Bill Lambert. Lambert retired at the end of August.

The city received a System Improvement Award for work on the Middle Street Substation. The new substation will improve system reliability and efficiency.

Wapakoneta Electric Department’s commitment to safety was recognized with an AMP Safety Award in recognition of having no time loss due to reportable accidents.

The utility was also commended for providing mutual aid assistance to the city of Celina following a severe storm last April and to the village of Waynesfield following a severe storm in July.

AMP, headquartered in Columbus, is the wholesale power supplier and services provider for 129 members, including 128 municipal electric communities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia and the Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation.
