Chili Day set, proceeds benefit programs

February 19, 2013

The Wapakoneta Sertoma Club is hosting its 38th annual Chili Day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

“Hopefully the weather will be cooperative,” event chair Ralph Miller said. “Its for a great cause. It is for a great cause and the people of Wapakoneta have always been supportive of the event.”

The dinners, which are $7, will include a hot dog, drink, and a dessert. Kids age 4 and under are free. People can eat-in where it is all-you-can-eat chili and other items at a cost or they can use the drive-thru window.

All the desserts are homemade by members of the club.

Tickets can be purchased from any member prior to the event or at the door.

Miller said the event has grown into a tradition and is supported fully by the community.

All the proceeds from the event will benefit speech and hearing therapy programs as well as other community projects. The Sertoma Club supports speech and hearing therapy services in the area.

Last year, the event served approximately 1,200 to 1,300 meals.

Miller said the goal this year is to meet those same numbers with the hopes of serving more.

The members of the club will begin preparation for the chili meal on Wednesday evening. Each batch of chili will be made in 10-gallon batches.

“We make the chili from scratch,” member Alan Davis said. “The same recipe is used every year.”
