Charles Wildermuth, 92
Charles R.E. “Gene” Wildermuth, 92, of Wapakoneta, died peacefully at 10:55 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born April 27, 1921, in Auglaize County, the son of Elizabeth and Edward Wildermuth, who preceded him in death. On June 1, 1946, he married Ruth P. Gast, and she died June 21, 2010.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen M. Steinke, of Wapakoneta; five grandchildren, Linda (Will) Zizelman, BJ (Beth) Steinke, Brian (Stephanie) Wildermuth, Nicole (Thomas) Werling, and Tracy (John) Bell; and 14 great-grandchildren, Douglas (Lindsay) Fisher, Tyler Fisher, Kayla Zizelman, Tanner Zizelman, Arika Steinke, Morgan Steinke, Jenna Steinke, Maria Wildermuth, Darnay Wildermuth, Riley Werling, Drake Werling, Zane Werling, Kathryn Bell, and Evelyn Bell.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Wildermuth; a great-granddaughter, Jordan L. Fisher; three brothers, Chris Wildermuth, Leo Wildermuth, and Vern Wildermuth; a sister, Margaret Puccetti; a sister-in-law, Helen Braun; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Gast.
Gene worked as manager of The Brunswick in Wapakoneta. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 330, both of Wapakoneta. A U.S. Army veteran, he served with the 71st Division Artillery. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Patrick Sloneker officiating. Burial is to follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta.
