Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Coates, 89

Charles W. “Chuck” Coates, 89, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at 11:45 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, in Lima.
Charles was born March 28, 1923, in Auglaize County to Cleta (Harpest) and Charles Payne Coates. On July 2, 1944, he married Joan K. Klingler and she preceded him in death on April 4, 2003.
He is survived by a son, Wesley E. (Kathy) Coates, of LeGrange; a daughter, Joyce (Robert) Spencer, of Waynesfield; two sisters, Alice WIlliams, of Lakeview, and Lois Ann Lamphar, of Zanesville; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Mary Jones, of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Coates, and a sister, Betty Hubble.
Charles was a farmer and also worked for Ohio Mutual, United Ohio Insurance Company, and Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance for 20 years.
Active in the community, Charles served on the New Hampshire School Board for eight years, was a Goshen Township Trustee for 28 years, a member of the New Hampshire Lions Club for more than 20 years, and a member of the Allen County Bass Masters for more than 20 years.
Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the New Hampshire United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hampshire United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jean Horn, Mike Westbay and Wayne Dewitt officiating. Burial is to follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery, in New Hampshire.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Armentrout Funeral Home, in Waynesfield, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
