Byron âBarneyâ C. Anderson, 88, formerly of Celina, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Wapakoneta Manor.
He was born June 6, 1923, in Jefferson Township, Mercer County, to Mary (Granger) and Charles Anderson. On Nov. 12, 1955, he married Garnet Dalton, who preceded him in death May 12, 2011.
Surviving are two sons, Barry (Rita) Anderson, of Wapakoneta, and Todd (Beth) Anderson, of St. Augustine, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kyle (Amy) Anderson, of Dublin, and Erica Anderson, of Dublin; a step-grandson, Jason Banks, of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister, Olive Miller, of Celina; and two sisters-in-law; Jeanie Anderson, of Celina, and Betty May Anderson, of Celina.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Anderson and Ralph Anderson; and a sister, Thelma Boroff.
Byron worked for the city of Celina Street Department as an equipment operator for 30 years before retiring. He loved to watch sports, walk and garden. He also enjoyed having the family dogs, Annie and Liberty, come to visit.
He graduated from Celina High School in 1941 and served in the U. S. Army from Sept. 1944 to Nov. 25, 1945. He was stationed with Company B, 899th tank destroyer battalion and was a medium tank crewman and parts clerk. He served in France and Germany before being awarded the Bronze Service Star and Victory Medal.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.
