Buckeye Farm Antiques show celebrates 25 years

May 12, 2014

The Buckeye Farm Antiques 25th annual tractor and gas engine show will be held from Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25 at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds, Wapakoneta.

The festivities will include a display of John Deere tractors, equipment, gas engines and memorabilia. Demonstrations will be held daily, including antique working machinery and crafts.

“We’re the first show of the season, and usually everybody is anxious to get out and see everybody in the spring of the year,” club member Esther Gaier said. “We like to entertain and educate the public, and we invite the surrounding counties, as well as the Wapakoneta community.”

The first Buckeye Farm Antique show was held in 1990. Since then, the organization, as well as the show, has grown in size and popularity.

“When the club started, we had no money,” Gaier said. “A gas engine was donated the first year to sell raffle tickets on, and then we started buying tractors, restoring them and selling raffle tickets on them. Also, my mom made quilts and we sold raffle tickets on those, too, so that the club would prosper and also have money to operate on.”
