BOWLING: Redskins run the table

LIMA — Fifteen up, fifteen down.

The Wapakoneta Redskins got big days from Anthony Kennard and Zach Miller and rolled past the previously unbeaten Versailles Tigers on Saturday to wrap up a perfect 15-0 regular season and win the West Ohio High School Bowling Conference title.

Kennard, a senior, rolled individual games of 289 and 259.  Miller, a junior, turned in scores of 267 and 257.

Together, they posted the top four individual rounds of the day among the 16 schools competing at 20th Century Lanes in Lima.

Wapak tallied a team score of 3,137 to 3,034 for Versailles.  The Tigers finish their regular season at 14-1.

The Redskins started strong, besting Versailles 1,112-1,029 in the first regular game and following that up with a 1,136-1,079 advantage in the second.  They then won the first two baker games and held off Versailles down the stretch for the win.

Also for Wapak, sophomore Zerrick Brannan  bowled rounds of 215 and 203.  Senior Zack Brannan turned in a 202.  And sophomore Austin Krites rolled a 201.

Michael Davidson led Versailles with games of 245 and 201.

The junior varsity boys team also claimed the WOHSBC title despite a loss to Versailles.  The Redskins finished 11-1.  Versailles was 10-2.

The varsity girls wrapped up their regular season with a 2,681-1,890 win over the Marion Local Flyers.

Wapak finished the season third in the conference at 11-2 behind the Coldwater Cavaliers (13-0) and St. Marys Roughriders (12-1).

Senior Casey Feltz led Wapak with games of 246 and 221.  Junior Haley Grieves bowled rounds of 207 and 190.  Senior Schelby Rosebrook turned in a 185.

The sectional tournament will be 5 p.m. Friday at Community Lanes in Minster.
