BOWLING: Redskins claim district crown

ROSSFORD — The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys bowling team is headed back to the state tournament.

Runners up a year ago, the Redskins rolled their way to a district championship Saturday at Interstate Lanes in Rossford to earn a trip the state tournament Friday in Columbus.

Wapak piled up a team score of 4,000.  Coldwater was a distant second at 3,873.  Port Clinton was third at 3,820.

The Redskins sent a message early, posting a team score of 1,009 in the first game to take a nearly 100-pin lead on the field.  They followed that up with a 935 in the second and a 940 in the third for 2,884 pins heading into the baker games, where they bowled well enough to hold off any challengers.

Anthony Kennard led the way for Wapak.  The senior totalled 636 in the three regular games, the third-best individual score of the day.  His best game was a 258 in the second.

Zach Brannan turned in a 606, ninth-best on the day.  He rolled a 235 in the first game.

Zach Miller tied for 12th best overall with a 600, including a 228 in the first game.

The Redskins girls team finished fourth with a score of 3,367, missing the cut by 326 pins.

Coldwater won the district with a 4,023, followed by St. Marys at 3,693.

Haley Grieves led Wapak with a 543, including a 205 in the first game.

Casey Feltz rolled a 520.  And Schelby Rosebrook turned in a 502.
