The Botkins High School girls basketball team began their game against the homestanding Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers with an aggressive pressing defense and some sharp shooting, kept the momentum going and came away with an impressive 57-39 win on Thursday night.
There was no doubt that the Lady Trojans were going to be a handful for Waynesfield, with six of their top eight players coming back from a club that went 16-7 last year, and that had won two of their first three games this year.
The Trojan defense forced nine Botkins turnovers in the first eight minutes of play, to run out to a 10-3 lead, and then kept building on that all night, but the deciding stretch occurred in the early going of the third quarter.
Waynesfield was still in the game at the half, trailing only 26-15, but that would be as close as they’d get the rest of the game.
