The Botkins girls soccer team opened its season Tuesday with a 1-1 tie in a home game against Benjamin Logan.

“At this time last year we were 0-1 so we are off to a better start,” said Botkins varsity head coach Joe Welker.

Both teams scored their lone goals in the first half. Whitney Bornhorst garnered an assist with a pass to Natalie Ambos for the Trojans’ only goal.

Botkins battled for a scoreless second half. The Trojans made several threats in the second half but were unable to convert.

“We had a big offensive surge in the second half but we just weren’t able to put it in the back of the net,” Welker said.

Goalie Keirstyn Rogers had three saves and five steals for the Trojans. Michaela Kramer led the team with six steals.

The Trojans will play again at 5:30 p.m. Thursday when they travel to Lima Central Catholic.
