BOTKINS — The Botkins Carousel will be celebrating its 50th year next week opening at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 6 through Sunday, June 8.

The first event of the weekend festivities will be the much anticipated Carousel Queen Pageant starting a 7 p.m. on Friday, June 6 in the Junior High School Gymnasium.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the pageant, 35 former pageant queens will be participating in the event. Those same queens will be the grand marshals in the “50th Carousel Parade — Rockin’ at 50!” The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8.

This year’s pageant will include eight candidates that will be dazzling their audience, pageant chair Patty Mack said.

“We’re really fortunate because we have had extra entertainment in between the pageant for the past 17-18 years,” Mack said. “We have a lot of talent in our local community. People from outside the community are always surprised.”
