Boating incident leaves one dead

Officials are still investigating the events which led to a man’s death following a boating accident around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31, at Indian Lake. 

The victim has been identified as Joshua Keith, 24, of Bellefontaine. 

Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) watercraft officers received a call of nine people aboard a sinking boat on Indian Lake north of the Lakeview boat ramp. 

When officers arrived, eight people had been pulled from the water by rescuers from the Lakeview and Joint Township fire departments.

Officers began an immediate search for the remaining person. Keith’s body was recovered approximately two hours later. 

The initial investigation revealed none of the occupants were wearing life jackets. The investigation is ongoing and no additional details are available at this time.
