Benjamin Armer, 89

Benjamin E. “Ben” Armer Jr., 89, a resident of the Otterbein Retirement Center, Cridersville, and formerly of Springfield, died at 4:38 p.m., Sunday, June 12, 2011, in St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Springfield, the son of the late Phyllis (Gearhart) and Benjamin E. Armer. In 1959, he married Donna Ercel (Shepherd) Armer, who preceded him in death on July 5, 2005.
He is survived by a son, Benjamin E. Armer III, of Australia; a sister, Elizabeth Eichman, of Springfield; a brother, David H. (Marilyn) Armer, of Wapakoneta; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Donald Armer; and two sisters, Charlotte Spees and Jean Campbell.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a member of Underwater Demolition Team 6. He retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base after 27 years of service. He was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home in Springfield, with the Rev. Richard McDaniel officiating.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held in Terre Haute Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at
