BASKETBALL: Trojans thump Fairlawn

BOTKINS — The Botkins girls came to within one game of evening out their record with a convincing 47-20 win over Fairlawn on Saturday.

The Trojans survived a slow start and held only a 4 point lead after the first eight minutes of play. They dominated from that point and outrebounded the Jets 47-12 to ease their way to the win.

“We were a little slow getting started and you could tell we hadn’t played in a while,” varsity coach Don Mack said. “We had some time off. An ugly win is still a win.”

Hailey Billing, Casie Bergman, Christine Johnson and Logan Pitts all had nine rebounds each to lead the Trojan dominance on the boards. Johnson and Pitts had 13 and 10 points respectively, while Claire McCullough added 11 points.

The Trojans are now 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the league. Fairlawn fell to 0-10.

The junior varsity team also won in a 38-16 decision.
