BASKETBALL: Botkins bumps Indians

BELLEFONTAINE — The Botkins Trojans opened their varsity boys basketball season with a 67-57 win over the Mechanicsburg Indians on Friday night in the opening round of the Benjamin Logan Tip-Off Tournament.

Botkins jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter and led 28-21 at the half.

Senior Ethan Zimpfer hit a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Trojans maintained their advantage.

Botkins won the game at the free-throw line, hitting on 14-of-21 attempts in the fourth quarter.

The Trojans’ Heath Geyer led all scorers in scoring with 20 points.

Zimpfer added 11, as did Josh Schwartz. Tyler Egbert chipped in with 10.
