March 15, 2012

Two Wapakoneta Redskins boys basketball opponents will square off for a trip to the state boys basketball tournament and a third is one step away from doing the same.

The Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds knocked off Worthington Christian 57-40 in the first Division III regional semifinal Wednesday at Bowling Green State University.  Then the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans routed New London 55-27 in the second.

O-G (18-6) and LCC (22-2) will meet in the regional final at 8:30 Friday night, with the winner advancing to the state tournament next weekend at the Ohio State University.

In Division IV, the No. 1-ranked Jackson Center Tigers bumped the St. Henry Redskins from the tournament with a 37-30 win in a regional semifinal at Kettering Fairmont High School.

The Tigers will put their perfect 25-0 record on the line when they face Dayton Jefferson Township in the regional final at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

In Division II, Elida (21-3) will play Cleveland Benedictine (15-8) in a semifinal game tonight at 8 at the University of Toledo.  Sandusky Perkins (22-2) squares off with Columbus Brookhaven (19-5) in the other semifinal at Toledo.  Perkins bounced Defiance 72-52 in the district finals.

The girls basketball tournament begins today at Ohio State University’s Value City Arena.

Regionally, the Anna Rockets (26-0) will take on the Liberty-Benton Eagles (23-2) in a Division III state semifinal at 8 tonight.  The winner will face either Smithville (26-0) or Columbus Africentric (21-4) in the state title game at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Bath Wildkittens (23-2) will battle Millersburg West Holmes (23-3) in a Division II semifinal at 1 p.m. Friday.  That winner will take on either Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (20-5) or Bellbrook (22-4) in the state championship game at 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
