Barbara Norton, 58

October 4, 2012

Barbara Lee (Boehringer) Norton, 58, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at St Rita’s Hospital in Lima.
She was born April 23, 1954, to Wilma (Riffle) and Paul Boehringer, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Amy Norton (Lukas Lehmann), of the Isle of Gigha, Scotland, and Jamie (William) Goudy, of Wapakoneta; a granddaughter, Kieran Goudy; three brothers, Joseph Boehringer, of Elbert, Colo., Robert Boehringer, of Garden City, Kan., and Timothy Boehringer, of Greenville; and three nephews, James, Ryan, and Devin.
Barbara graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1972, and gained a business associate degree from Davis College in Toledo in 1974. She spent several years as a stay-at-home mother before returning to school to pursue her dream of teaching. She obtained a bachelor’s of education degree from The Ohio State University in 1990 and a master’s degree from the University of Findlay in 1998. She taught in the Wapakoneta City Schools for 22 years, first in special education at the high school, and then middle school, most recently teaching sixth grade social studies and science. She was committed to serving her community through holding positions on church council and the teachers’ union, volunteer work at God’s Storehouse and teaching Sunday school. She also helped out at her daughter’s store, The Herb Ladies, with her knowledge of natural remedies. Her favorite activity was spending time with her “bestest buddy,” Kieran.
She was a beloved mother and G-Ma, a dedicated teacher, and a loyal friend. She will be sorely missed.
Services are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wapakoneta Community Worship Center, which she attended, and friends will have an opportunity to share their memories.
Contributions may be directed to Dollars For Scholars.
Arrangements are being handled by Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.
