Auction benefits fund
BUCKLAND — The Buckland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary held a quarter auction to raise money for the department’s auxiliary fund Saturday.
Overall, approximately 25 donated items and 100 items overall were auctioned off to approximately 125 people in attendance. Of the 125 or so bidders, mostly women, even a few men got into the mix.
“I was surprised to see a few men out there,” said a volunteer at the event. “It is just fun community time. Most of the people are from the Buckland area, but we had some people from other places too.”
Auxiliary President Gail Lindeman said the event went well and that the auxiliary received a lot of good feedback from the event.
“All of the money raised from the event goes to the auxiliary fund,” Lindeman said. “We use it for different things. We use it for food and drinks when the department is on runs. Sometimes there are items they need to purchase for the fire department that they can’t afford and we will purchase it for them.”
Approximately 25 vendors who mostly specialize in home sales donated items to the event and showcased their items in the hopes of drumming up business for home parties. The local dealers featured different items such as clothing, candles, purses and other women’s accessories, and many others.
Lindeman said the money raised will go into the auxiliary’s general fund.
“We won’t know for a few days about how much exactly we made,” Lindeman said. “We will take care of a few expenses and see what we finished with, but I would say we made about $1,000 to $1,500 to put in the fund.”
