Annual art exhibit includes youth

August 7, 2012

A local art center is gearing up for an annual exhibit — one that will now include a youth category.

The Riverside Art Center in Wapakoneta will be accepting artwork on Friday and Saturday for the fourth annual Greater Wapakoneta Community Art Exhibit.

A member of the Riverside Art Center is pleased to announce that a special category has been added this year for the young artists in the community.

“We have several area youth that are very talented,” Riverside Art Center member Pam Knoch said.

Knoch said the center wanted to make a category to include the youth in this year’s exhibit. Each year the center has a children’s exhibit, and they have taken notice that there are many creative pieces made by the youth in the area, so they wanted to invited them to also participate in this annual exhibit.

Knoch invites all to enter, whether they think they are an artist or not.

“We have tons and tons of local artists,” Knoch said, “including a lot of people who don’t think they are an artist. Some people don’t think they are an artist because they only paint a little or draw a little, but they are artists.”

Knoch said this is a great way to get them noticed.

Area residents of all ages can drop off their artwork from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. This is a juried show, and up to seven pieces of artwork can be entered for $5 each. Categories include oil, acrylic, watercolor, drawing, mixed media and 3-D.

The opening reception is scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, with the winner announced at 7:30 p.m. The show is to be on display until Sept. 28.

A total of $850 will be awarded to the winning pieces at the exhibit, including a best of show, honorable mentions and community leader awards.

A prospectus can be downloaded at riversideartcenter.org or can be picked up at the Riverside Art Center, 3 W. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta.
