The greatest athletes of Wapakoneta gathered near the Auglaize River last night to race in one of the most grueling, challenging and surprising competitions any of them could imagine.

OK, maybe they weren’t the best athletes in the area, and maybe the race wasn’t the most grueling, but a group of about 85 people did come together and have some fun for a good cause with a large crowd cheering them on.

The bed races are one of the events that help to kick off the annual Summer Moon Festival, and this year’s wet, wild adventure did not disappoint.

Teams registered for a fee of $20, and the top three finishers of the races won money to donate to a charity of their choice.
