Ambos, Brown end run at state tournament

March 3, 2014

The end of the Wapakoneta Redskins’ season came Friday as their final two state qualifiers were eliminated from the tournament.

Redskins juniors Dallas Ambos and Colton Brown each won their second match Thursday in the first round of the consolation bracket.

They entered Friday’s competition needing one win to secure a spot as a state placer but each of them lost in their only match Friday, ending their state appearances.

In the 145-pound weight class, Ambos lost a 9-4 decision to Mantua Crestwood junior Nick Wrobel.

Ambos finished his injury-shortened season with a 14-11 record.

At 195, Brown was defeated by Perkins senior John Workman in a 5-3 decision.

Brown lost to Workman by a 2-1 decision in the third-place match last Saturday in the Bowling Green district tournament.

Brown ended his season with a 23-10 record.

Redskins freshman Landon Hall was eliminated from the tournament Thursday with two straight losses.

The 182-pounder finished his first season of high school with a 24-13 record.
