The Auglaize County commissioners hired Timothy Klopfenstein as the new county administrator.
Commissioners John Bergman and Doug Spencer confirmed that Klopfenstein had agreed Thursday to take the position in a telephone call.
“We are very happy with the choice,” Bergman said. “We were very pleased with the number of applicants we received. We had some very good applicants.”
Klopfenstein, of Wapakoneta, will begin in his new position on Nov. 28. His initial salary is set at $60,000 annually.
Bergman said a formal announcement for Klopfenstein’s hiring will be released next week.
“We are currently doing the paperwork and completing the background checks,” Bergman said. “We expect everything to check out fine.”
Klopfenstein had not immediately returned a phone call to a number listed on his resume on Wednesday for comment on his hiring.
Klopfenstein, 15119 Brown Road, currently serves as president and general manager of an independent office of MCC Capital Corp. since March 2010. On his resume he described his duties to include administering securities, equity products, life insurance, financial planning, estate planning and trust management services. He also developed and implemented business plans and trained bank personnel in the regulated referral process.
Prior to that, he had served in an executive director position at James A. Rhodes State College from 2008-2010 and in a variety of positions at MetoKote Corporation.
The position became open when Joe Lenhart announced he planned to retire effective Jan 31. Lenhart’s last day in the office will be Dec. 30 and he plans to use vacation and flex time for the last month.
Kim Everman, who is currently the administrator for Mercer County, was initially offered the position but turned it down.
Everman confirmed that she was offered the job but turned it down in a telephone call Wednesday.
The commissioner’s minutes from their Oct. 20 meeting stated their plans to offer the job to Everman and then to Klopfenstein if she decided to not take the position.
