ACME: Wapak bats come alive in win over Kenton

June 16, 2011

That’s more like it.
After scoring just 11 run in its previous three games combined, Wapakoneta’s ACME baseball team snapped out of its offensive slump with an 11-run first inning and cruised to a 13-1 five-inning run rule win over Kenton on Wednesday at Wapakoneta High School.
The win lifted Wapak to 8-0 on the season.
Brandon Miller picked up the win on the mound.
Six different players collected hits for Wapak, with three players tallying multiple hits.
Chandler Kaeck led the way, going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Second baseman Alex Koch was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and an RBI.
Third baseman Marshall Gerlach went 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Wapak totalled 10 hits for the game.
Josh Apple went 0 for 3, but was hit by a pitch and reached on an error to score twice and drive in a run.
Brandon Schreiber was 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.
Miller went 0-for-3, reaching twice on errors to drive in two and score one.
Keaton Zwiebel went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
And Josh Carder was 1-for-2, was hit by a pitch, and scored twice and drove in two.
After pitching one inning in relief to earn the save in a 4-3 win over Kenton on Tuesday night, Miller started and pitched a complete-game three-hitter on Wednesday.
He struck out nine and walked just two. The one run he allowed in the top of the first was unearned.
Wapak will face New Knoxville, a team it beat 21-1 just nine days ago, tonight at 6:30 at New Knoxville.
