A county agency is gearing up for a festival to help get people into the spirit of the season — and to raise some funds for their organization.
The Auglaize County Council on Aging (ACCA) is hosting their first annual Auglaize County Harvestfest from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds. Patrons can enter through the east gate entrance.
ACCA Executive Director Christina Roby said this is an event for all ages to enjoy.
“We have a wide variety of activities,” Roby said.
From children’s activities to craft vendors to food, there will be something for everyone, she espoused.
Roby noted all of the proceeds from the event will go toward ACCA Senior Services Fund.
“Our funding has been cut for the last few years,” Roby said. “We are trying to do the best we can to provide without asking for money.”
ACCA’s mission is to assist the elderly, age 60 and older, of Auglaize County by providing direct services to promote the health, emotional, social and intellectual well-being of senior adults, by remaining independent and a resourceful part of the community. ACCA strives to enhance the quality of life for all senior adults by providing programs and in-home services, advocacy and resources.
There will be approximately 60 booths on site Saturday, including Pampered Chef, Thirty-One Bags, jewelry, scarves and candles.
“This would be a good time to do a little Christmas shopping for the holidays,” Roby said.
She said they decided to host this event before the holidays, and on a date that did not interfere with other events in the area.
Also included in the line-up are an array of activities and games will be set up for the children, including tractor and hay rides and pumpkin decorating.
Sweet Caroline’s Chicken will be making chicken and rib dinners, and tickets can be bought pre-sale by contacting an ACCA employee or visiting area chamber offices.
Also, there will be other kinds of food and baked items for sale.
Dennis Kohler will be on site from noon to 2 p.m. to give free appraisals.
The cost to get in is $1 or a canned good item, which will go to Agape and Mercy Unlimited. Children under 10 get in for free.
Roby noted that a good way to get work done is to do it in a collaborative effort, and they are always wanting to help other agencies however they can.
Roby said that everything is going smoothly for the event as committee members and staff members have been supportive in helping prepare for this fall event.
