‘No Roof’ to be left behind
Frost Roofing Inc. in Wapakoneta will give a completely new roof to a lucky winner.
Frost Roofing Inc. owners J.J. and Sarah Smithey recently announced they will participate in the No Roof Left Behind program, in which a homeowner will be selected to have their roof done for free.
“We had been searching for a way to give back to the community,” Sarah Smithey said. “This way, we didn’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
Dina and Jay Elie started the program in Michigan in 2008 after the collapse of the economy and seeing many roofs with tarps because owners could not afford to have roofs fixed. No Roof Left Behind (NRLB) now is a nationwide program that gives people in the community a way to help their good neighbors that have fallen on hard times. NRLB provides a local contractor the framework to provide a new roof at no cost to a deserving homeowner in need.
“We learned about this at the national roofing convention in San Antonio in February,” “J.J. Smithey said. “This is the first year it has went national. The Elies were at the convention and talked about the process of the program. That was how we got involved.”
One winner is awarded per county in every county that participates in the giveaway. The public can nominate any homeowner they think may be deserving between now and July 19. The
nominees can be voted on online and the field will be narrowed to four nominees from Aug. 2 to Sept. 6. The winner to receive a new roof will be announced Sept. 9.
“We just get with them and set up a time to put on their roof,” J.J. Smithey said.
J.J. Smithey said they expect to get at least 20 nominations before it is time to narrow the field. They have already received a few. Those few nominees were at first skeptical when told of the giveaway.
“They were looking for the strings that were attached,” J.J. Smithey said.
Fast Signs in Lima, shingle manufacturer Certainteed, and Modern Building Supply in Lima are co-sponsors for the giveaway.
“We are pretty excited about it,” Sarah Smithey said. “I think good will can be contagious. A lot of the crew here are excited about it also. We are all excited to help someone out.”
J.J. Smithey said the goal for the company is simple.
“A new roof gives you peace of mind,” J.J. Smithey said. “For some people it is not obtainable. We see that on a daily basis. With recent storms there are a lot of people in need. We can help a homeowner get that peace of mind that could not have otherwise done it.”
