COLDWATER — Kodi Morgan’s RBI double in the top of the seventh pushed Wapakoneta past Coldwater in a 7-5 win Friday in ACME summer baseball play at Memorial Field. The two teams played under the lights, with a scheduled start time of 7:30 p.m. and an actual start time of just after 8 p.m. due to a game on the field prior.
The game was knotted at 5-5 entering the seventh inning.
ST. MARYS — The Wapakoneta ACME team piled up 14 hits resulting in 11 runs over their final four at-bats to keep distance from the St. Marys ACME in a 16-8 win Thursday in summer baseball action at Geiger Park.
The win moved Wapak’s record to 7-4 overall this summer.
St. Marys opened the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the second.
The Redskins then manufactured at least two runs in each of their next five at-bats.
After three times at bats, Wapak had 10 baserunners, none of whom reached on a base hit.
BLUFFTON — Seven innings wasn’t enough to determine a district champion in the Division II Bluffton District Title game.
The Wapakoneta Redskins and the Lexington Minutemen found themselves tied at 2-2 heading into extra innings. The Redskins were able to load the bases three times in late innings, but the third time turned out to be the charm for the defending-state-runner ups from Wapakoneta.
Four Wapakoneta Redskins made the Western Buckeye League first-team list, tied for most in the league with Shawnee.
In baseball, Johnny Crawford and Chandler Kaeck made the first team list.
Crawford is the No. 1 pitcher for the Redskins and the centerfielder on his off days. He is a dynamic southpaw that is a threat on the mound and at the plate. Crawford has committed to play college baseball at Bowling Green State University.
