The Wapakoneta Redskins blanked the Bellefontaine Chieftains, 5-0, in their first match of the season Tuesday in varsity girls tennis play. Bellefontaine brought only five players to the match at the Wapakoneta Rotary Club courts at Wapakoneta High School.
The Redskins lost only one game Tuesday.
“It was a good start,” Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock said. “They’re a weak team. I expect our competition to be much stiffer as the season goes on.”
Waynesfield-Goshen junior Kennedy Rumer aced the ninth hole Tuesday at Tree Links Golf Course in Bellefontaine during the Benjamin Logan Lady Raider Invitational. Rumer used her 6-iron on the par-3 for the hole-in-one.
The W-G Tigers placed eighth and last overall in the tournament with a score of 509.
Chelsea Spencer led W-G with an 18-hole score of 105. Rumer followed at 125. Danielle Heintz posted a 139, and Elva Anne Shephard tallied 140.
The Wapakoneta Redskins opened their 2013 season with a sixth-place finish out of 18 teams Monday in the Homan Invitational at Piqua Country Club in Piqua.
The Redskins totaled 349 strokes as a team.
Drew Wayman led Wapak with an 80 for 18 holes.
“Drew played steady throughout the round, as he recorded 10 pars and eight bogeys,” Wapak varsity coach Kenny Wayman said. “He hit the ball well, but the greens were the culprit for a really good round.”
WAYNESFIELD — The Wapakoneta Redskins won their first match of the season Monday as they handled the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, 188-238, in non-league varsity girls golf action at Prairie View Golf Club in Waynesfield.
Monday’s result evened both teams’ 2013 overall records at 1-1.
The Redskins’ top four scorers each bested the Tigers’ top scorer.
The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity girls golf team notched its first win in school history Friday, tallying a 265-270 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians in a dual match played at the Mercer County Elks Country Club in Celina.
W-G started its first full girls golf season in school history this school year beginning Friday.
The Tigers were led by Kennedy Rumer and Chelsea Spencer, who each tallied a 57. Also for W-G, Elva Anne Shephard had a 71, while Hannah Williams scored an 80.
