GIRLS BASKETBALL: Redskins pick up first win of year

November 27, 2012

In the consolation game of the Tip-Off Tournament at Wapakoneta High School, the Redskins found victory over Troy High school, 41-38.

Scoring was streaky to say the least in this contest. These two teams were both coming off tough losses from the night before, and Wapakoneta varsity coach Rusty Allen said there was a combination of fatigue and caution that led to the low scoring affair.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: 'Skins start Tip-Off Tourney with loss

November 24, 2012

This basketball season for the Wapakoneta girls varsity squad began a little differently this year, hosting a Tip-Off Tournament.

But the result Friday night was less than desired for a host school at their own event.

Former 'Skin to play in college playoffs

November 21, 2012

We all love our Redskins. And every so often, a hometown favorite or a high school standout makes his way to the next level athletically. While he may not being wearing the Red and White of Wapakoneta, one collegiate football player has made his way onto the starting squad of a playoff team.

And he credits a lot of his success to his hometown in Auglaize county.

Some of you may remember him, but if not, meet Cale Tabler, now a sophomore at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Boys bowling starts season with win

November 20, 2012

The varsity boys bowling  team kicked off its season with a convincing win over Russia Saturday,  2519-1834.

This season’s boys squad features many returning varsity players from last year, and varsity coach Jim Kaeck said the team should be able to build on last year’s state qualifying squad.

Saturday’s match was a dissappointment in one regard for Kaeck, in that the lane conditions were poor, and the balls were hooking way too much.

Wapakoneta CYO boys top NorthStar, girls lose

November 20, 2012

The Maroon boys CYO team took to the court Sunday evening and defeated NorthStar 59-47 in their first basketball game of the season.

Leading scorer for the Maroon squad was Austin Scott, who netted 15 points on the evening.

The match was fairly even in the first quarter, with both teams knotted at 15 a piece, but the second quarter belonged to the Maroon team.

Allowing just 6 points in the second quarter to the NorthStar squad, the defense was stifling.

OSU football could struggle down the stretch

November 13, 2012

I think people are forgetting what is still to come.

The schedule for OSU football up to this point has been cake.

Easy, weak, laughable.

You can pick your own word.

The best win was a road win at a struggling Penn State. A Penn State team that, like Ohio State is shining while the Big Ten is the worst it has been in a long time.

Can Ohio State boast an overtime home-win against Purdue?

Column: Carrier classic means so much more than basketball

November 12, 2012

Ohio State and Marquette were set to square off on the U.S.S. Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Until tipoff. When the floor started to accumulate condensation. After an hour delay, the game was called due to excessive condensation, and the safety of the players was in serious jeopardy.

I guess that’s the risk of playing a game on a boat. Parked in the ocean. In the middle of November.

Wapak players earn WBL honors

November 9, 2012

Voting for all Western Buckeye League honors is complete, and nine Redskin players are touting league honors after their 7-3 season.

Johnny Crawford

This season has been an explosive one for three-way player Johnny Crawford. While he was a main target at the wideout position all season, Crawford earned honors on the defensive side of the ball.

Crawford was named first-team defensive back.
