Another shut-out victory for the Redskins

After a rocky start to the season, the Wapakoneta varsity baseball team is doing what they can to get back on track.

Back-to-back shutouts isn’t a bad place to start.

Traveling to Kenton Monday afternoon for a makeup of Friday’s game, the Wapakoneta Redskins run-ruled the Kenton Wildcats, 11-0.

Redskins shutout New Bremen in weekend action

The plays which have been vexing the Wapakoneta Redskins in the past four games instead bewitched the New Bremen Cardinals on Saturday at Redskin Field.

The Redskins captured an 8-0 win against the Cardinals behind a stellar pitching performance from senior Brandon Miller to end a four-game losing streak, while the Cardinals wasted a gutsy performance on the mound by pitcher Trevor Kitzmiller to fall to 2-7 on the season.

Wapakoneta dops one to Shawnee in league play

Holding a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning, it seemed the Wapakoneta varsity baseball team had figured out its recent defensive problems, and was on its way to victory.

When it rains, it pours.

The Shawnee bats came alive in that sixth inning and they scored 11 runs in the frame, all but sealing the victory, 11-3.

Fielding errors doom Redskins against Minster

Despite jumping out to a 4-0 lead inning, the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity baseball team fell to the Minster Wildcats Monday afternoon.

Minster pitcher Devon Poeppelman gave up four runs in the first inning, but then completely shut down the Redskin offense with his off-speed pitches, as the Wildcats battled back to win, 8-4.

Boys and girls track sweep at dual meet

ST. HENRY —  The Wapakoneta boys and girls track teams defeated St. Henry Tuesday evening in a track dual event.

The boys and girls both scored 75 team points to pick up the win. 

While Wapakoneta only won 15 of the 34 events, they picked up enough second and third place finishes to seal the victory for both squads.

Wapakoneta run-rule’s Greenville in victory, 11-1

The Wapakoneta Redskins’ bats came alive Tuesday and the team got another solid performance from their top right-handed pitcher as the varsity boys captured a run-rule win.

Starting Redskin pitcher Chace Culver pitched 5 innings, giving up only four hits and zero earned runs, in the 11-1 win over the Greenville Green Wave.

Crawford leads ’Skins to win

DELPHOS — The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity baseball team fell back on the solid pitching and hitting of their No. 1 starting pitcher to pick up a win in the first game of the 2013 season.

Johnny Crawford went 6 innings and drove in two runs Monday to give the Redskins a 6-3 win over the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays.

Relay event named to honor Horn

WAYNESFIELD —  Waynesfield-Goshen High School has been hosting the W-G Relay event since they opened the new track in 2005. For all those years, the invitational did not have a name, other than the W-G Tiger Relays.

After a long time coming, the W-G Relays was officially named the Joe Rider Horn Tiger Relays. 

This meet named after a staple in the Waynesfield community, Joe Rider Horn. 

Wapak coaches prepare for offseason camps

Wapakoneta football coaches are preparing for Frye’s Football Fundamentals Camp this summer, with hopes of growing the Wapakoneta football program from the ground up. 

Bo Frye, the son of varsity football coach Doug Frye and an assistant on the Wapakoneta squad, will be the camp director this year, and is excited about the camp this year, to build tradition at Wapakoneta.

Redskin softball prepares for Florida

The Spring Sports season for the girls softball team begins a little sooner than normal this year.

The girls open against Sidney on April 2 as their first game in the area, but this team will be traveling to Florida for some practice and some games against some of the nation’s best teams.

The girls are headed to Cocoa Beach, Florida, where they will play school from Pennsylvania, Florida and Kentucky.
