Alex Gossard shot a career-low to help the Wapakoneta Redskins shoot a season-low 163 in their two-stroke win Tuesday over the Celina Bulldogs in Western Buckeye League varsity boys golf action at the Wapakoneta Country Club.
Jared Miller’s 44 came from Wapak’s final group and helped decide the match. The Redskins needed a 46 or better after the first two groups came in.
Gossard’s 40 from the second group aided veterans Drew Wayman (39) and Bobby Crow (40) from Wapak’s first group.
The Wapakoneta Redskins ended a six-match winning streak Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers in a non-league varsity volleyball match.
Tuesday's scores were 25-12, 25-7 and 25-15.
"Coldwater is a very disciplined and well-coached team," Wapak varsity coach Amy Ruppert said. "We struggled with our serve-receive and that contributed to our loss because we couldn't get our offense going.
Allie Zofkie handily won the Wapakoneta Night Meet as the host Redskins’ freshman finished 1 minute, 8.6 seconds ahead of the next runner with a time of 19:47.7 on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Park.
The race, which started at 8:45 p.m., was Zofkie’s second straight individual victory following a win on Aug. 20 in the Auglaize County Invitational.
The Redskins placed fourth out of nine schools with 98 points.
The Wapakoneta Redskins rebounded just in time to win their first two matches and cruised in the third one to claim three wins in a home quad match Saturday in varsity volleyball action at Wapakoneta High School.
With the three wins Saturday, Wapak has now won six consecutive matches to improve to 6-1 overall this season.Wapak lost a tight 25-23 game to the Marion Harding Presidents to open the day’s action but evened the match with a 25-23 win of its own.
The Redskins then landed a 25-18 win to close out the best-of-three match.
Though they never trailed, the Wapakoneta Redskins were resilient when they needed to be Friday as they had to execute in several key situations to hold off a pesky Bellefontaine Chieftains squad.
Wapak’s two-touchdown halftime lead, 21-7, was threatened immediately in the third quarter, but the Redskins made enough plays to hold on in a 35-17 victory over Bellefontaine in the 2013 regular season opener for varsity football.
