Defiance handles Wapakoneta, 158-178, in WBL match

The Wapakoneta Redskins fell two losses behind Western Buckeye League leader, the Bath Wildcats, after a 158-178 loss Thursday against the Defiance Bulldogs in a WBL varsity boys golf match at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance.

The loss dropped Wapak to 4-2 in WBL play, while Bath remained perfect in league action at 6-0 with a 165-176 victory Thursday over Van Wert.

Schaub's late goal gives Wapak win over LCC

Lilli Schaub’s goal with just under nine minutes left in Thursday’s contest broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the difference in the Wapakoneta Redskins’ 2-1 victory over the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in non-league varsity girls soccer action at Harmon Field.

More than 70 minutes of game action passed between Wapak’s first and second goals Thursday, as Kylee Dahman scored the Redskins’ first goal 21 seconds into the first half.

Wapakoneta rallies to beat Indian Lake by 1

The Wapakoneta Redskins finished strong after a weak start Thursday in their 205-206 victory over the Indian Lake Lakers in a varsity girls golf match at the Wapakoneta Country Club.

Wapak gained seven shots on Indian Lake’s first two players on hole No. 8 and then shot just 1-over-par on the ninth and final hole to squeak by for the one-stroke win.

Wapak sophomore Emily Klopfenstein came in with a 55 in the final group to best teammate Sierra Sammons’ 56 from the previous group, giving the Redskins the win.

Trojans beat Fort Loramie, 182-189, in SCAL match

The Botkins Trojans have now posted nine wins in 10 matches after their 182-189 win Thursday over the Fort Loramie Redskins in a Shelby County Athletic League varsity boys golf match at Shelby Oaks Golf Course in Sidney.

Botkins is now 9-1 in match play this season.

Josh Miller’s 42 for the Trojans was good enough for match medalist.

Botkins also had scores of 45 from Roger Miller, 46 from Nick Okuley and 49 from Seth Hanna.

Fort Loramie was paced by Brad Goettemoeller’s 45.

W-G loses NWCC match to Lehman Catholic in 3

The Waynesfield-Goshen has lost a season-high four straight matches after a 3-0 defeat Thursday to the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers in a Northwest Central Conference varsity volleyball match in Sidney.

Scores for Thursday’s match were 25-7, 25-14 and 25-5.

The Tigers have now lost four straight, to Cory-Rawson, Ada, Pandora-Gilboa and Lehman Catholic.

W-G lost three straight matches to open the 2013 regular season before beating Ridgemont for its first win Aug. 29.

Lehman Catholic blanks Botkins, 6-0

The Botkins Trojans were shut out 6-0 by the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers on Thursday in a non-league varsity girls game in Sidney.

Natalie Ambos had 11 steals and two shots for Botkins.

The Trojans’ goalkeeper Keirstyn Rogers posted 12 saves and seven steals.

The loss left Botkins still winless with a 0-4-2 record.

The Trojans will continue their season Tuesday against Newton.

Botkins ties New Knoxville, 0-0

The Botkins Trojans played to a scoreless tie, 0-0, Thursday against the New Knoxville Rangers in a non-league varsity boys soccer game at Botkins Community Park.

Christian Hoskins had five saves for Botkins in goal.

The Trojans are now 2-2-2 this season.

Botkins will face St. Marys in a non-league match at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Wapakoneta defeats Shawnee in crucial WBL match

If they didn’t have a bulls-eye on their back already, the Wapakoneta Redskins certainly have one now.

Wapak defeated the Shawnee Indians, 4-1, on Wednesday in a critical Western Buckeye League match in varsity girls tennis action.

The win kept Wapak undefeated on the season at 8-0 overall and gave the Redskins control of the WBL race with a 5-0 league record with four matches to play.

“We needed a team effort,” Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock said. “I just wanted to escape with a 3-2 victory.

Wapakoneta seeks winning formula against Kenton

Speed equals distance divided by time, distance equals speed multiplied by time and time equals distance divided by speed.

Two of those elements cannot exceed nor fall short of the third. Balance must exist for them to equate properly.

The Wapakoneta Redskins will try to find that balance among speed, distance and time in order to calculate a winning formula against the Kenton Wildcats on Friday in both teams’ Western Buckeye League season opener.

Wapakoneta freshman Zofkie starting fast in 2 sports

Wapakoneta High School freshman Allie Zofkie would find it hard to have a better start to her high school athletic career.

The tiny two-sport athlete is making a big impact early in the 2013-14 school year.

Zofkie has won two cross country races in three attempts and is undefeated in the second singles’ lineup on the Redskins’ tennis team.
