ACME: Wapak rallies past St. Marys to advance

MINSTER — Under the lights on a chilly, sometimes breezy night, Wapakoneta ACME performed when needed most Monday in order to advance.

Wapakoneta rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat St. Marys, 5-4, on Monday in the quarterfinals of the double-elimination Auglaize County ACME sectional tournament at Hanover Street Park.

With the win, Wapakoneta advanced to face Minster, a 2-1 winner over New Bremen earlier Monday. The loss dropped St. Marys into the loser’s bracket with New Bremen.

Trailing 4-1, Wapak broke through in the sixth inning to take the lead for good Monday.

ACME: Wapak wins season finale over Celina, 2-0

Wapakoneta ACME starting pitcher Kodi Morgan threw a four-hit shutout against Celina ACME in his team’s 2-0 victory Friday at Wapakoneta High School in the regular season finale for the summer baseball league.

Friday’s game was delayed in the bottom of the sixth inning due to lightning.

The first hit Morgan allowed came in the third inning but that runner was stranded. He gave up two hits in the fourth inning after one out, but retired two straight hitters to escape. His final hit allowed came in the fifth inning with two outs.

ACME: Wapak downs Sidney

Wapakoneta ACME, despite only three hits Thursday, managed an 8-2 win over Sidney ACME in summer baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Not until a Jordan Kaeck single in that fourth inning did Wapak record a hit Thursday. Before then, the team had 10 baserunners, all reaching either by error, walks or hits-by-pitch.

Wapak starting pitcher Keaton Metz allowed two runs and five hits after three innings but settled in to throw four scoreless innings with only two baserunners the rest of the game.

ACME: Wapak blanks LCC

Wapakoneta ACME starting pitcher Quinn Lotridge made quick work of the Lima Central Catholic ACME offense Wednesday, mixing hitting the corners with his fastball and throwing his curve late in counts.

The game lasted less than 90 minutes and was finished despite threats of rain in the forecast around the 6:30 p.m. start time.

In five innings pitched, Lotridge gave up one hit and allowed just three baserunners total Wednesday, making 71 pitches in the outing. Lotridge struck out seven hitters in his team’s 6-0 win in summer baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Garman placed on 7-day disabled list

Brian Garman saw his time on the mound halted until next month, as the Wapakoneta native was placed on the 7-day disabled list Monday.

Garman is a pitcher for the Huntsville Stars, a Double-A minor league baseball team of the Southern League based in Huntsville, Ala.

Garman’s first win of the season came June 16 against the Chattanooga Lookouts in a 3-1 victory. He pitched one inning and did not allow a baserunner.

At the time he was placed on the DL, this season Garman had 1-0 record, a 4.25 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

ACME: Wapak avenges loss to Minster

Wapakoneta ACME overcame a brief 3-0 deficit by scoring seven straight runs in a 7-4 win over Minster ACME on Tuesday in baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.

The two teams are battling for the top seed in the sectional tournament which starts Sunday.

Tuesday’s win gave Wapak a 10-6 record, while the loss put Minster at 9-3-1. Wapak’s first loss this summer came June 11 in a 5-2 defeat at Minster, so each team has a three-run victory over the other.

ACME: Wapak outdone by Shawnee, 9-2

SHAWNEE — Wapakoneta ACME did not have the type of start they wanted to have during an important week of baseball.

The Shawnee ACME team bested Wapakoneta, 9-2, on Monday, as they each prepare for tournament action this weekend.

Wapakoneta will host Minster at 6:30 p.m. today in a battle for the sectional tournament’s first seed, in the second of five straight games in as many days this week.

The loss on Monday drops Wapakoneta to 9-6 overall on the summer season, while the win moves Shawnee to 11-3 this summer.

ACME: Wapak splits DH with Bath

LIMA — The Wapakoneta ACME team flexed its muscles in the first game of a doubleheader as they run-ruled the Bath ACME team, but a seventh-inning rally in the second game fell short as the two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.

The split left Wapak with a 9-5 record on the season, while the Wildcats moved to 8-2 on the summer schedule.

The Redskins wasted no time in taking control of the first game, sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs in the top of first inning.

OHSAA unveils fall sports divisions

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association unveiled the rest of the fall sports tournament divisions Wednesday after approval by OHSAA Board of Governors and the Wapakoneta Redskins moved down a division in football and moved up a division in girls cross country.

The divisions will apply to OHSAA postseason tournament competition for the next two school years, starting with the 2013-14 school year.

The OHSAA announced new divisions and regions for football June 13.

ACME: Wapak edges Coldwater

COLDWATER — Kodi Morgan’s RBI double in the top of the seventh pushed Wapakoneta past Coldwater in a 7-5 win Friday in ACME summer baseball play at Memorial Field. The two teams played under the lights, with a scheduled start time of 7:30 p.m. and an actual start time of just after 8 p.m. due to a game on the field prior.

The game was knotted at 5-5 entering the seventh inning.
