Wapakoneta's Zofkie wins night meet

Allie Zofkie handily won the Wapakoneta Night Meet as the host Redskins’ freshman finished 1 minute, 8.6 seconds ahead of the next runner with a time of 19:47.7 on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Park.

The race, which started at 8:45 p.m., was Zofkie’s second straight individual victory following a win on Aug. 20 in the Auglaize County Invitational.

The Redskins placed fourth out of nine schools with 98 points.

Wapakoneta wins home quad match

The Wapakoneta Redskins rebounded just in time to win their first two matches and cruised in the third one to claim three wins in a home quad match Saturday in varsity volleyball action at Wapakoneta High School.

With the three wins Saturday, Wapak has now won six consecutive matches to improve to 6-1 overall this season.Wapak lost a tight 25-23 game to the Marion Harding Presidents to open the day’s action but evened the match with a 25-23 win of its own.

The Redskins then landed a 25-18 win to close out the best-of-three match.

Wapak holds off Chieftains, 35-17, to win opener

Though they never trailed, the Wapakoneta Redskins were resilient when they needed to be Friday as they had to execute in several key situations to hold off a pesky Bellefontaine Chieftains squad.

Wapak’s two-touchdown halftime lead, 21-7, was threatened immediately in the third quarter, but the Redskins made enough plays to hold on in a 35-17 victory over Bellefontaine in the 2013 regular season opener for varsity football.

Jefferson cruises past Waynesfield-Goshen, 48-3

DELPHOS — Some lessons are best learned the hard way. The Jefferson Wildcats easily survived a lackluster start Friday to easily cruise over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, 48-3, in season-opening varsity football action in Delphos.

The Wildcats rolled to the victory by simply wearing down an overmatched Tiger squad.

'Skins post 8 goals in WBL win over Kenton

The Wapakoneta Redskins scored eight goals in a winning effort in their second straight game Thursday, as they defeated the Kenton Wildcats, 8-0, in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys soccer game on the artificial turf at Harmon Field.

“We were able to control the middle of the field, and at that point in time, it was a track meet,” Wapak varsity coach Keith Rambin said.

Thursday’s win gave Wapak a 1-0 start in Western Buckeye League action and moved its season record to 3-0.

For the fourth consecutive game, the Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls soccer team shut out the opposition.

They have been doing so behind a stingy defense and the goalkeeping of junior Mikayla Halfhill, but on Thursday, the Redskins needed that defensive effort more than ever as they only scored one goal in blanking the Coldwater Cavaliers, 1-0, at Ryan Field.

Wapak outlasts Kenton in 5 games

The Wapakoneta Redskins notched a win in their first Western Buckeye League match of the season Thursday in a 3-2 win over the Kenton Wildcats in varsity volleyball action in Kenton.

Wapak trailed in games won two separate times in Thursday’s match, as the game scores were 22-25, 25-8, 20-25, 25-18 and 15-6.

The win was Wapak’s third straight and gave the team a 3-1 overall record and a 1-0 WBL mark.

'Skins stop Shawnee on road, 174-182

The Wapakoneta Redskins rebounded from their lone Western Buckeye League loss with a 174-182 road win Thursday over WBL foe, the Shawnee Indians, in varsity boys golf play.

Wapak’s Bobby Crow was Thursday’s match medalist with a 40. Drew Wayman followed with a 42. Only those two players had previously played at the Shawnee Country Club.

Nick Bruns and Jared Miller each carded 46 to finish Wapak’s scoring. Alex Gossard (52) and Wesley Ruedebusch (53) also played for the Redskins.

Tigers record 1st win with victory over Ridgemont

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers recorded their first win Thursday in a three-game sweep of the Ridgemont Golden Gophers in a Northwest Central Conference varsity volleyball match.

The win was W-G’s first under new varsity coach Caitlin Klima and put the team’s season record at 1-3 overall, 1-0 in the NWCC.

“It’s exciting,” Klima said about the team’s first win. “The girls definitely deserved that.”

W-G will next play Saturday in a tri-match at Ada with Cory-Rawson.

Botkins handles Jackson Center, 181-198

The Botkins Trojans topped another Shelby County Athletic League opponent Thursday with a 181-198 win over the Jackson Center Tigers in varsity boys golf action.

Roger Miller paced Botkins with a 42 on Thursday, with Nick Okuley adding a 43.

Seth Hanna contributed a 47, and Josh Miller shot a 49.

Gavin Wildermuth was Jackson Center’s low scorer at 47.

Botkins improved to 6-1 overall with Thursday’s win.

The Trojans will play New Knoxville today for their next match.
