Wapakoneta, Minster advance in tourney

MINSTER – Both of Auglaize County’s remaining teams in the ACME district tournament overcame dicey early innings to pick up wins on Monday night at Hanover Street Park and set up a match-up tonight.

Minster fell behind by four runs early before scoring 14 unanswered runs in a 14-4 run-rule win over Anna while Auglaize County sectional champ Wapakoneta escaped from a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning with a double play and went on to defeat Fort Loramie 9-2 in the nightcap.

Minster and Wapakoneta will play tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Minster.

Jr. ACME opens districts with win over St. Henry

ROCKFORD — The Wapakoneta Junior ACME team opened district play with a 6-2 win over St. Henry Monday.

Wapakoneta broke open the scoring in the top of the first when Logan Martin drew a leadoff walk and stole second base. Quinn Lotridge singled and got caught in an intentional rundown between first and second, allowing Martin to score.

Jarrett Koch and Martin put together successive RBI doubles in the third inning to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Redskins down Coldwater Junior ACME 11-7

Wapakoneta Redskins Junior ACME sophomore pitcher Quinn Lotridge overcame a 5-run second inning as his teammates rallied to beat the Coldwater Cavaliers Junior ACME team 11-7 Sunday night in Rockford.

Staked to a 2-0 lead when sophomore first baseman Kodi Morgan scored on a passed ball after he was walked and moved to second on a single by sophomore third baseman Jon Eaton and a walk to left fielder Taylor Gonzales. Eaton scored on a groundout by second baseman Alex Rasche.

Redskins fall to Crestview

The Wapakoneta Redskins Junior ACME team fell to the Crestview Knights for the second time in four days.

After falling 11-8 Tuesday in an error-filled game behind the pitching of sophomore pitchers Jon Eaton and Keaton Metz — the error bug struck again  and in the same inning, the fifth.

Trailing 4-1 after surrending four unearned runs in the top of the second, the Redskins rallied in the bottom of the third to tie the score.

Redskins beat Minster, win sectional

MINSTER — Wapakoneta strolled through most of the Auglaize County sectional ACME baseball tournament without using its best available pitcher.

When top-seeded Wapak finally pulled its ace out of the back pocket, Chace Culver was unhittable.

Culver threw five no-hit innings and reliever Dominic Campos finished off the shutout with two scoreless innings as Wapakoneta wrapped up the Auglaize County sectional ACME title with a 7-0 win over Minster on Friday night.

Junior ACME pounds Parkway after pelted by rain

CRESTVIEW — A rain delay failed to derail the Wapakoneta Redskins Junior ACME team from winning a pivotal game against the Parkway Panthers Junior ACME team in the opening round of the state tournament.

Needing a win to stay alive, the Redskins, now 14-6, jumped out to a 6-2 lead after five innings, before a 90-minute rain delay halted to play.

Handling the tag: Wapak deals with being sectional top seed

MINSTER — The Wapakoneta Redskins ACME baseball team put together enough key hits at the right time Sunday afternoon the top-seeded Redskins opened the 2012 Auglaize County ACME sectional tournament with a 5-0 victory over New Bremen.

“Brandon Miller did a good job and only had to throw about 85 pitches,” Wapakoneta ACME head coach Willie Sammetinger said. “After the first inning you could tell he was in command.”

Gerlach blanks Cavs

The pitching just doesn’t seem to run out for the Wapakoneta Redskins ACME team.

This time, it was starting pitcher Marshall Gerlach’s turn to baffle opposing hitters.

Gerlach limited a solid Coldwater Cavaliers ACME team to three hits and never allowed a runner to reach third base as the Redskins nailed down a 5-0 win Wednesday.

“He continually worked ahead in the count tonight,” Wapakoneta ACME head coach Willie Sammetinger said. “He is tough to score on when he is getting ahead in the count.”

Wapak wins pitching duel

LIMA — In a tight pitcher’s dual, the Wapakoneta Redskins ACME team managed to bunch enough of its few hits together as they took a 3-1 win home from Lima Central Catholic High School on Tuesday.

The Lima Central Catholic ACME team quickly jumped out to take a 1-0 lead off of Wapakoneta starting pitcher Brandon Miller, but Miller settled down the rest of the way. He scattered four hits over four innings.

'Skins 'Dom'ination: Wapak sweeps Bath

Total domination.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first game of a doubleheader, the Wapakoneta Redskins ACME dominated the Bath Wildcats ACME team with a sweep of the twin bill.

The Redskins beat the Wildcats 9-3 in the opening game behind an 11-strikeout, three-hit performance by starting pitcher Dom Campos, and Wapak used their batting eye and bats for a 15-5 win in the second game as the team collected 10 hits.
