WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers entered Friday night's NWCC showdown with a perfect scenario, a chance to nail down a league title and a likely playoff berth, in front of a large homecoming crowd.
Instead, the Tiger laid an egg of epic proportions, suffering a relentless 42-14 pounding at the hands of the Panthers.
“It was senior night, so I’m sure the girls were a little amped,” said varsity head coach Keith Rambin. “If I’m being honest, we played one of our most flawless games of the year.”
And flawless is was.
Wapakoneta volleyball hosted Kenton in the regular season finale, and swept the Wildcats 3-0; 25-13, 25-16, 25-11.
It was the last regular season game for the Wapakoneta girls soccer team, and after an up and down season on the pitch, the girls finished with a statement.
Wapakoneta hosted the Kenton Wildcats Tuesday evening, and sent them home backing, bearing a 4-1 loss to the Redskins.
Varsity head coach Ross Kantner said he was proud of the way the girls finished the season, and hopes to take this momentum into sectional play.
ST. MARYS — It may have been pouring down rain and hovering just around 45 degrees Friday night, but it didn’t seem to bother the Redskins.
In unison, the Wapakoneta High School team ran and slid through the water and mud on the surface of Skip Baughman field following a 14-0 win over the St. Marys Roughriders.
Wapakoneta varsity football coach Doug Frye said the conditions were tough, but he was proud of how his team handled the adversity.
RIDGEWAY — The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers weren’t for sure what to expect out of their key NWCC matchup with Ridgemont going into Friday’s game.
However, it appeared the Golden Gophers were totally oblivious. The Tigers ran roughshod over their opponent to secure a 53-0 win and take over sole possession of the NWCC lead.
Those were the audible screams from Wapakoneta’s senior libero Amber Dickerson while her team was up against the wall in the fourth set against St. Marys Tuesday night.
Wapakoneta was trailing in sets 2-1 and in points in the fourth set, 15-11. Things were looking bleak for the Redskins.
The rain started to fall as the clock started to wind, and when the clock his zero, the Wapakoneta Redskins found themselves victors over Van Wert, 4-3.
“We pulled the win, it wasn’t pretty, we had some let downs in there, but offensively we did the things we wanted to do,” said varsity head coach Marc Dyrness.
