Schlegel earns 2nd career 1st-team all-league honor

Youngstown State senior Heidi Schlegel was named a First-Team All-Horizon League selection for the second straight season, as the all-league rosters were announced Monday.

The 2010 Wapakoneta High School graduate is the fifth player in Penguins women’s basketball history to be first-team all-conference twice in a career.

Schlegel, a Wapakoneta native, finished the regular season ranked third in the Horizon League in scoring and rebounding with per-game averages of 17.9 and 9.6.

Cridersville Village Council met Monday in the village hall. During the meeting, Council approved the committee members who will be responsible for overseeing the funding for the Legacy Park project.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

Wapakoneta Police Chief Russel Hunlock announced Monday that an early morning traffic stop on Saturday resulted in the arrest of a Waynesfield man for possession of a controlled substance.

Child struck at intersection of Water and Lima streets

Scanner traffic reports, along with confirmation from both the Wapakoneta Police and Fire Departments, that a child was struck this morning by a vehicle at the intersection of Lima and Water streets. There was someone who was transported by Wapkoneta EMS to St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

No further details were available by press time as of Monday.

Bath tops Wapak to win district title

PAULDING — The Wapakoneta Redskins managed to hold a one-point halftime lead, 18-17, before the Bath Wildkittens zoomed past the Redskins with a 21-8 advantage in the third period to effectively seal their fifth straight district title.

The Wildkittens tallied a 51-34 win Saturday in a high school girls basketball Division II district final at Paulding High School.

Madison Dackin had 20 points for Bath (23-1), which will face Rogers in a regional semifinal Tuesday.

Megan Watt led Wapakoneta (18-7) with 13 points.

3 Wapak wrestlers advance to state

Wapakoneta wrestlers Tyler Copeland, Heath Newman and Landon Hall each qualified for the state championships Saturday after placing in the top four at districts.

Redskin bowlers qualify for state championships

March 7, 2015

 

Wapakoneta High School's girls and boys bowling teams qualified for state today after placing first at their respective district tournaments.

The girls will make their state appearance at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl in Columbus.

The boys will make theirs at the same time and place Saturday.\

4 Redskins reach district semifinals

All seven of Wapakoneta’s district qualifiers are still alive for bids to the state tournament. Four of them are in the championship semifinals after the first day of district action Friday in a Division II tournament at Mansfield Senior High School.

Tyler Copeland, Heath Newman, Landon Hall and Jayden Hefner can qualify for state with at least one win in each of their first two matches today.

Dallas Ambos, Brad Beemer and Dylan Plaugher will begin today’s action in the consolation brackets.

Wapakoneta boys basketball advances to districts

MOUNT BLANCHARD — Keaton Metz exploded for 22 points, as the Wapakoneta Redskins handled the Upper Sandusky Rams in a 60-44 victory Friday in a high school boys basketball sectional final at Riverdale High School.

The Redskins (12-11) will face Western Buckeye League rival St. Marys (15-8) in a district semifinal at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty-Benton High School in Findlay.

Metz had four 3-pointers in the win. Corey Crawford (11) and Ethan Good (10) also reached double figures in scoring Friday for Wapakoneta.
