Lake attracts boaters, campers over holiday

ST. MARYS — Sunny skies and calm waters brought a slew of boaters and campers to Grand Lake St. Marys State Park for the holiday weekend.
“It was a good weekend,” Park Manager Brian Miller said. “The campground was at 90 percent occupancy, which is the best we’ve seen since Memorial Day weekend. Boat traffic was well above what it was — we had people tubing, skiing and people using boaters beaches for swimming. There also was a lot of fishing, having picnics and people enjoying the area.”

County seeking person to serve on board

The Auglaize County commissioners are looking for someone to serve on the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties.
The four-year term is to replace the Rev. Steve Nelson, whose term has expired.
The board’s mission is to “reach out and provide vital prevention and treatment services to every resident,” board Executive Director Mike Schoenhofer said

Firemen host Jamboree this weekend

The Cridersville Firemen’s Jamboree will include something for everyone of all ages this Friday and Saturday, as event organizers work to make it bigger and better each year.
This will be the 47th year for the Jamboree, and Cridersville Fire Chief Ron Mertz said there will be fun for all ages at this annual fundraiser for the fire department.
“It’s a neat event for everyone, and there is a little bit of everything for everyone,” Mertz said. “It’s a small-town type of atmosphere, but has a great feel.”

Debra Jean Hensley, 56, of 511 South Beech Street, Saint Marys, was found dead on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at her residence.
She was born January 2, 1955, in Saint Marys, the daughter of Virgil “Jack” and M. Jean (Chilcoat) Keysor.
She is also survived by her three children: Jack (Katie) Hensley of Saint Marys, Charity (Rodney) Kuck of New Knoxville, and Bryant “BeBop” (Chrissy) Hensley of Saint Marys.

Sharon M. Wells-Dicke, 65

Sharon M. Wells-Dicke, 65, of 5336 Lake Drive in Celina, died 8:10 a.m. Friday July 1, 2011 at her residence.
She was born January 9, 1946 in St. Marys to Virgil and M. Jean (Chilcoat) Keysor.
On September 9, 1997 in Gatlinburg, Tenn., she married William F. Dicke, who survives.
A joint funeral service for Sharon Wells-Dicke and her sister, Deb Hensley, is scheduled 10:30 a.m. Friday July 8, 2011 at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, with Pastor Robert Mabry, officiating. Burial will follow at Spencerville Cemetery, in Spencerville.

Elaine Stella Sheridan, 57, of South Solon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Springfield Regional Medical Center.
She was born on June 28, 1954 in Lima, the daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Carolyn (Jurosic) Fisher.
Elaine is survived by the love of her life and husband of 22 years, Ray Sheridan; brother, Bro. Joseph Fisher, C.PP.S; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Mark Lunz, Anita and John Ankerman and Julia and Douglas Quay; numerous nieces, nephews and friends; and special friends, Wendy and Jim Voorhees.

Leon Gerling, 85

Leon E. Gerling, 85, 525 W. Bremen St., New Knoxville,, died at 9:47 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Nov. 5, 1925, in Minster, the son of Jennie (Bolheimer) and Frank Gerling. On Aug. 2, 1972, he married Rosemary W. Landwehr Burris and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Gerling of Celina and Edward Gerling of Winchester, Ind.
Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Church in New Bremen, with the Rev. Stephen Wills officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Grove Cemetery in New Bremen.
