Thirty years have passed since Keith Froning’s baseball team last assembled — ever since a bicycle accident took Keith’s life.
Keith’s mother, Marlene Froning, took the opportunity this weekend to surprise the team and bring them together again.
Team members and coaches were given specially designed t-shirts with a drawn rendition of Keith’s baseball picture from 1983 on the back as they all came together Saturday for the first time in 30 years during the fifth annual Bicycle Safety Day at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds.
When half of the items don’t even make it inside the building, you know it is a successful day for the annual Wapakoneta Drop and Swap.
The “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” adage rung true Saturday as the 20-year-old event saw it’s traffic decrease just slightly from a year ago.
There are few absolutes in life, but one of those is kids like to get dirty — very dirty, if possible.
Children got the chance to do just that Saturday at the annual Children’s Greenhouse Day at the Village Green Floral and Garden Center in Wapakoneta. The cooler temperatures did nothing to stop the kids from coming out.
Co-owner Gretchen Sheely said the business holds the annual event to get children interested in gardening at a young age.
With a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Wapakoneta Redskins likely thought they could stamp their ticket to the next round of sectional play.
The Shawnee Indians had other plans.
After trailing the Redskins 4-3 at the end of the fifth inning and watching the Bill Sammons-led squad take a 6-3 lead in the sixth, the Indians scored three times in their last at-bat to tie the game at 6.

CELINA — With league play finished and the sectional tournament on the horizon, the Wapakoneta Redskins scheduled an extra game against the Celina Bulldogs Thursday to keep the team loose before playoffs begin.
Wapakoneta starting pitcher Johnny Crawford, who went 5-plus innings and allowed only two earned runs in the sixth inning, picked up the victory for the Redskins, 4-2.
