Megan Hayzlett sure picked a good time to have a career night.
The junior middle hitter had her best game as a varsity player to help lead the Wapakoneta Redskins to a 3-2 win over the Defiance Bulldogs in a pivotal Western Buckeye League volleyball match Thursday at Wapakoneta High School.
â€śI told the girls, that is probably the biggest win in my two years here,â€ť Wapak coach Keith Rambin said. â€śIt was probably our best performance of the year when we needed it most.â€ť

OTTAWA â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins came up short in the Western Buckeye League varsity boys golf tournament Thursday at Pike Run Golf Club in Ottawa, finishing seventh.
Wapak shot a team score of 350, just seven strokes out of a top-four finish.
â€śItâ€™s one of those years that we didnâ€™t consistently shoot a good team total,â€ť Wapak coach Ken Wayman said. â€śIt would have been nice to shoot more consistent and avoid the big number holes, but we simply didnâ€™t not finish strong in the WBL.â€ť
Waynesfield-Goshen graduate Joe Horn is playing professional football again.
Horn has reached a one-year deal with a one-year option with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
The deal comes three weeks after he was released by the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts signed Horn as an undrafted free agent when the NFL lockout ended on July 26.
â€śIâ€™m just glad to be playing football again,â€ť Horn said in a text message. â€śI feel like I learned a lot in Indianapolis and now I can actually put what I learned in to playing.â€ť
Alberta June Shaw, 90, of Lima,, died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011at her residence.
She was born March 8, 1921, near Buckland, the daughter of Ollie Thomas and Harold C. Ramga. On Nov. 11, 1939, she married Robert Eugene Shaw, who died Oct. 30, 2000.
Surviving are three sons, Larry Shaw, of Newark, Richard Shaw, of Lima, Herbert Shaw, of Lima; and three daughters, Ruth Tolle, of Dacula, Ga., Roberta Graessle of Antioch, Clif., and Harriet Slaughter, of Concord, N.C.

MARION â€” The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers finished fifth in the Northwest Central Conference varsity boys golf tournament Wednesday at Whetstone Golf Club in Marion.
W-G turned in a team score of 417. Riverside won the tournament with a 342.
For the Tigers, Eric Shaner carded a 93, Justus Ball a 97, Garrett Hauenstein a 109 and Ryan Agnew 118.
Riversideâ€™s Kyle Hurley was medalist with an 83.
Fairbanks (375) and Perry (394) rounded out the top three. USV was fourth with a 402.
Most of the tournament was held in rainy conditions that varied from a drizzle to a downpour.
The Wapakoneta Redskins made a match of it but could not overcome the Ottawa-Glandorf Titans, falling 2-0 in a varsity girls soccer match Tuesday at Harmon Field.
Wapak withstood a relentless first-half assault then began to challenge in the second half. It took a Titansâ€™ goal with 2:12 remaining in the match to seal the win for O-G.
The Titans tried to exploit their speed advantage by pushing the ball into the corners, outracing the defense to the ball and crossing it back to the middle. But the Redskins managed to keep the ball in the corners and limit O-Gâ€™s crossing opportunities.
GREENVILLE â€” The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity tennis team ran into a deep Greenville Green Wave squad Tuesday in non-league match. The Redskins fell 4-1 to Greenville.
Redskin senior Makenzie Klock dispatched of Greenville freshman Sophia Navas-Davis in straight sets. She blanked the freshman 6-0 in the first set and then continued her domination in the second set 6-2 in a match-up of first singles opponents.
A former member of the Wapakoneta Police Department and the Auglaize County Sheriffâ€™s Office alleges she was sexually assaulted in her Auglaize County home by the Shelby County sheriff last year resulting in his arrest early Wednesday.
