Mayor seeks report to determine where work is needed

A decline in income tax collections this year powers the concerns of city administrators, but a city leader says he expects a rebound in the city’s main revenue source soon.
Mayor Rodney Metz said he intends to request a report today from the city’s Tax Information Office regarding a breakdown of income tax collections.

Putting on a show: Local WHS students show off talent

Singing, piano solos and guitar ballads filled the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center as local youth showcased their talent to the public on Saturday.
Wapakoneta High School freshmen through seniors performed this weekend during the Redskin Revue, a high school talent show, held at the Wapakoneta High School. The performers could perform any act they wanted.
Approximately 20 performances were given, including singing songs by Adele, playing the piano to a Kelly Clarkson hit song and strumming the guitar to a Christina Perri tune.

Event brings holiday cheer to area

Trees adorned with tinsel, garland and lights lit up the hallways and common rooms of The Gardens at Wapakoneta this past week as residents and community members flocked to check out the Christmas scene.
The 13th annual Festival of Trees was held during this past week and weekend, and included more than 80 donated items, which were all auctioned off to festival bidders.
A silent auction was held to bid on the trees and specialty items decorated with Ohio State ornaments, Hawaiian colors, snowflakes and tractors — just a few of the attractions at the event.

Barbara Keller, 68

Barbara “Jane” Keller, 68, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:10 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Cyrus Frey, 55

November 21, 2011

Cyrus “Jimmy” Frey, 55, of St. Marys, was found dead on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, near Grand Lake St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 26, 1956, in St. Marys, the son of Eleanor (Walker) and John Frey and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Dustin Frey, of St. Marys, Jeremy Frey, of St. Marys; and Justin Frey, of St .Marys.
Services are at noon Wednesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys. Military burial rites will be performed at Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton.
Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Harorld McNeil, 73

Harold W. McNeil, 73, of Lima, died at 9:03 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born June 5, 1937 in Grundy, Va., the is the son of Elizabeth Looney and Clyde McNeil. On Oct. 17, 1961 he married Inis A. Layne, who survives.
Also surviving is a son, David Harold McNeil, of Lima; and a daughter, Tracy Diane Green, of Lima.
Services are at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville, the Rev. Larry Molaski officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.

Raymond Mowery, 82

Raymond L. Mowery, 82, of Westminster, died at 7:11 a.m. Nov. 20, 2011, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1929, in Allen County, to Evadna Tidd and Jesse F. Mowery, who have preceded him in death. On Sept. 7, 1951, in the Harrod Christian Church, he married Rose Mary Elsass by the Rev. Williard Thomas. She survives in Westminster.

John Gies, 91

November 21, 2011

John Gies, 91, formerly of Jackson Center, died Saturday afternoon, Nov.19, 2011, at Dorothy Love Nursing Home.
He was born April 23, 1920, in Akron, to the late Mildred Fox and Christian Gies, Sr. On Sept. 2, 1939, in Kentucky, he married the former Naomi R. Packer and she preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1994.

Anita Rogers, 36

Anita L. Rogers, 36, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born in Lima, the daughter of Carol (Meckstroth) and Billy Rogers. Her mother survives in Wapakoneta, and her father is deceased.
Also surviving are two brothers, Jeffrey (Melanie) Rogers, of Sylvania, Paul (Cortney) Rogers, of Wapakoneta; five nephews, Jason T. Rogers, Austin P. Rogers, Zach J. Rogers, Blake L. Rogers, and Danny Wheeler; two nieces, Totionna S. Rogers and Kayionna S. Rogers; and paternal grandmother, V. Lucille Rogers, of St. Marys.
