Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

High school senior dives into driving herself toward excellence

BOTKINS — Botkins High School senior Jenna Christman has approached high school with a solid philosophy. A philosophy, she says, she hopes more students will apply to themselves before they graduate.
“If you want to try something, now is the time to do it,” Christman said. “This is the time when you can try everything and see if you like it. Don’t wait until you are a senior to try something. I’ve seen a lot of people wait until they were seniors and then they try something and find out they enjoyed it. They lose out on a lot.”

Harry Wilson, 88

Harry E. Wilson, 88, of Lima, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at his home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Colliersville, Va., the son of Cora Lee Cummings and Estil L. Wilson. On Dec. 15, 1964, he married Marilyn J. Lauer who survives.
Also surviving is a son, Bradley Wilson, of Angola, Ind.
No public services or visiting hours are planned.
Arrangements are being handled by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.
Contributions may be given to the Gerard Cancer Clinic in Lima.

Barbara Keller, 68

Barbara “Jane” Keller, 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 6:10 p.m. Nov. 20, 2011, at home surrounded by her family following a courageous two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). She faced this disease with love, grace, and dignity.
She was born Sept. 18, 1943, the daughter of Elizabeth Banks and Fredrick Pitthan, who preceded her in death. On Aug.11, 1962, she married the love of her life, John A. Keller, who survives in Wapakoneta. They were married for 49 years.

BOWLING: Wapak teams open with wins

The Wapakoneta Redskins boys and girls varsity bowling teams opened the season with wins Saturday at Plaza Lanes in Celina.

The boys team defeated Fort Recovery 3,010-1,986. Only Versailles (3,092) rolled a higher score in the meet.

Anthony Kennard recorded the highest individual score with a 278.

The girls team posted a score of 2,354. The Redskins won in a forfeit by Celina, but the team score was the third highest of the meet behind Coldwater and St. Marys.

Five arrested by Grand Lake Drug Task Force

ST. MARYS — Five area residents were arrested on Monday as a result of investigations by the Grand Lake Drug Task Force.
In a news release, Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said the suspects were arrested following a six-month drug investigation by the task force. 
Those arrested were:
• Gloria J. Steinke, 61, of St. Marys, on three counts of trafficking in drugs.
• Ralph D. Biederman, 49, of St. Marys, on two counts of trafficking in drugs.
• Paul A. Ryan, 62, of St. Marys, on three counts of trafficking in drugs.

Elmer Schneider, 93

Elmer M. Schneider, 93, formerly of 815 S. Meridian St., Portland, Ind., died Sunday evening, Nov. 20, 2011, at Swiss Village in Berne,Ind.
He was born Feb 23, 1918, in Freyburg, the son of Josephine (Speidel) and John Schneider. He was married, in 1983, to Sally Holthouse McIntosh, who survives.
Also surviving is a son, Phillip Schneider, of Portland, Ind.; and a daughter, Mary Jo Pearson, of Celina.
Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Portland, Ind., the Rev. Robert Moran officiating. Burial will follow at the Green Park Cemetery in Portland, Ind.

Varsity basketball game rescheduled

Due to the success of the Marion Local football team, the Boys JV/V Basketball game to be held at Wapakoneta on Dec. 10, 2011 vs. Marion Local has been moved to Dec. 30, 2011 with a 6pm JV start time. Please make this change on your schedules.

Mayor seeks report to determine where work is needed

A decline in income tax collections this year powers the concerns of city administrators, but a city leader says he expects a rebound in the city’s main revenue source soon.
Mayor Rodney Metz said he intends to request a report today from the city’s Tax Information Office regarding a breakdown of income tax collections.

Putting on a show: Local WHS students show off talent

Singing, piano solos and guitar ballads filled the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center as local youth showcased their talent to the public on Saturday.
Wapakoneta High School freshmen through seniors performed this weekend during the Redskin Revue, a high school talent show, held at the Wapakoneta High School. The performers could perform any act they wanted.
Approximately 20 performances were given, including singing songs by Adele, playing the piano to a Kelly Clarkson hit song and strumming the guitar to a Christina Perri tune.
