Clifford Fisher Jr., 64

March 23, 2012

Clifford W. Fisher Jr., 64, of Celina, died at 1:28 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital in Lima.
He was born June 14, 1947, in Wapakoneta, the son of Marcella Clum and Clifford Fisher Sr. On June 8, 1985, he married Carol Fleck, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Brian (Shannon) Fisher, of Lakeland, Fla., Kevin Fisher, of Celina, James (Barb) Fisher, of Celina, Derrick (Andrea) Harter, of Celina; a daughter, Dawn Fisher, of North Port, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Wapakoneta native, who has a passion for traveling and teaching, has found a way to do both.

Paula Davies, a 2000 graduate of Wapakoneta High School, teaches at an international school in the country of Tunisia, which is in northern Africa along the Mediterranean Sea, where she has spent the last school year living and teaching.

LEPC considers projects to fund

Grant money originally slated for a shooting range to train local law enforcement is being reallocated for other emergency planning needs of the county.

“We tried four times,” Auglaize County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Troy Anderson said.

The state failed to approve plans for a tactical shooting range and training facility, he said, even after they made tweaks each time to try to meet their criteria.

Paul Fortman, 90

Paul R. Fortman, 90, formerly of 14586 State Route 66, St. Marys, died at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Otterbein —St. Marys.
He was born Nov. 6, 1921, in St. Marys, to Alena (Gerstner) and Frank Fortman.
On Oct. 28, 1948, in Celina, he married Florence A. Miller, who died Oct. 28, 1986.
Surviving are four sons, Frank Fortman, of Uniopolis, Ed Fortman, of St. Marys, Carl Fortman of St. Marys, and John Fortman, of Corinth, Texas; and three daughters, Kathleen Lampert, of St. Marys, Mary Landis, of Port Hueneme, Calif., and Linda Ekberg, of Walton, Ky.

Dual EOCs planned: Future of county emergency operations centers considered

Having two emergency operation centers in the county is a likely possibility as Auglaize County officials look into future planning.

“We’re looking at having one in both places,” Auglaize County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Troy Anderson said, referring to Wapakoneta and St. Marys. “We would be unique in that we would be one of the only counties to have two.”

Understanding Jesus: The Rev. Davis talks on ‘He is calling Elijah’ at lenten lunch

The Rev. R.J. Davis, of First United Methodist Church, spoke to the congregation at the latest installment of Lenten Lunch about understanding.

His meditation was on “He is calling Elijah,” which is one of the words spoken to Jesus as he died on the cross.

After reading Mark 15:33-36, Davis said that the words spoken by Jesus had great emotion, especially when Jesus cried out in a loud voice “EliEli, EliEi, lemalema sabachthanisabachthani?” which is translated to “My God, My God, Why have you forsaken me?”

Rice Krispy contest at library underway

With the success of last year’s contest, the local library staff will be hosting another Rice Krispy Art contest for area residents.

The director Auglaize County Public District Library says she is excited for the second ever Rice Krispy Art Contest and believes the event should be fun for all ages again.

“It’s a fun activity for everyone to do,” Director Beth Steiner said. “It’s a creative thing to do as a family.”

Emma Mae Hackworth Zerbe, 85

Emma Mae Hackworth Zerbe, 85, of Lima, formerly of Lafayette, Tucson, Ariz. and Summerville, S.C., died at 7:15 p.m., Saturday March 17, 2012 at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Ivyton, Ky., to Pearl (Adams) and Cash Hackworth. Both parents are deceased. In 1949, she married Raymond S. Zerbe and he preceded her in death.
Surviving is a son, John Daniel ‘Danny’ Zerbe, of Tucson, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Ann Zerbe.

Jazlynn Gray, stillborn

Jazlynn Ella Gray, stillborn, died March 16, 2012,, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born to Amber Green and Michael Gray, who survive in Lima.
Services are at 1 p.m. Today at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, with the Rev. Shane Crites officiating.
