Jose plans to emulate father, wear medical coat

Wapakoneta High School senior Joseph Jose says he is very appreciative about moving to a small town at a very young age.

“I was very fortunate to be able to know a small town where I could have a relationship with everyone,” Jose said

Jose was born in Boston and lived in New York a short time before his family packed up and moved to Youngstown when his father, Mathew, went there for his residency for medical school. The Joses’ then moved to Wapakoneta just in time for Joseph to begin and finish his schooling in Wapakoneta.

Iva L. Kiser-Dowler, 98, of Cridersville, died at 12:56 p. m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at Otterbein-Cridersville.
Arrangements are incomplete at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.

Virginia Strader, 85

May 22, 2012

Virginia L. Strader, 85, of St. Marys, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Laurels of Shane Hill in Rockford.
She was born Oct. 18, 1927, in St. Marys, the daughter of Sarah (Moser) and John Jacobs. On Aug. 25, 1956, in St. Marys, she married Joseph M. Strader, who died February 13, 2009.
Services are at noon Friday at Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home.

Jeanne Campbell, 56

Jeanne A. Campbell, 56, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:23 p.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health Systems in Lima.
She was born March 20, 1956, in St. Marys, to Leah (Settlage) and Lester Kruse. Her mother preceded her in death and her father survives in New Knoxville. On Aug. 28, 1976, she married Rodney Campbell, who also survives in Wapakoneta.

Water rate to rise: Wapak billing discrepancy causes stir

Faced with an annual debt load increasing by 18 percent created mainly from building the new Wapakoneta Water Treatment Plant, city leaders plan to balance the books with a water rate increase.

Wapakoneta utility consumers should see a 5 percent increase in their water bill starting Sept. 1 and then every Jan. 1 thereafter if Wapakoneta City Council members pass an ordinance read for the first time at Monday’s council meeting.

Curfew policy to be reviewed

Top student has a positive attitude

Always smiling and happy is how classmates describe one of Wapakoneta High School’s top five students for 2012.

“We knew we didn’t have a chance against him for prom king,” a classmate Chris Schwartz said of Ryan Kremer. “He smiles all the time and everyone likes that.”

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: All-WBL teams announced

When you’ve thrown 44 straight scoreless innings, people start to notice.

Wapakoneta Redskins southpaw Johnny Crawford received that notice when the All-Western Buckeye League baseball and softball honors were released Tuesday.

Crawford was the lone Redskins baseball player to be selected to the first team.  The junior pitcher has not given up a run since a 7-2 win over Greenville on Tuesday, March 27.

TRACK: Regional qualifiers ready

Only one meet separates a select group from a trip to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

More than a dozen area athletes secured their places in the regional track and field meets based on their performances in the district meets last week.

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers lead the way with six athletes in 12 events qualifying.

The Botkins Trojans qualified four individuals in five events and one relay team.

And the Wapakoneta Redskins are sending two athletes in two events.
