A Wapakoneta couple brought their concerns regarding a proposed sidewalk path which crosses a busy city street in the middle of the block — a concern, a city councilor says, that is to be addressed by city administrators and school officials.
Gwynne and Dr. Thomas Freytag voiced their concerns with the Safe Routes to School sidewalk plan which includes a crosswalk crossing Lincoln Highway, or Ohio 501, at Liberty Street. The Freytags discussed the issue with Wapakoneta City Council members during Monday’s meeting.
A man who was considered “Wapakoneta’s No. 1 fan” and his children and grandchildren’s “biggest fan” has died.
Ferd Heller, of Wapakoneta, died Saturday at the age of 86.
Heller contributed much to the Wapakoneta community, especially through his 12 years that he served on the Wapakoneta City School Board of Education, which he was president for four years during the building of the new high school.
Gale E. Fry, 70, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:06 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Auglaize Acres.

Joseph D. Henne, 99, of Cridersville, died at 5:12 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at St. Ritaâs Medical Center in Lima.
He was born April 23, 1913, in Salem Township, near Kossuth, the son of the late Ethel (Richardson) and Daniel Richardson Henne. On July 31, 1937 he married Evelyn Ludene Rasneor who died November 2, 2006.

Ferd F. Heller, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at St. Ritaâs Medical Center in Lima.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Jeanette P. Thobe, 77, of New Knoxville, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
She was born March 11, 1935, in Maria Stein, the daughter of Magdelena (Hoelscher) and Henry Rutschilling. On Aug. 9, 1954, she married Arthur J. Thobe, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 2005.
Benjamin F. âBenâ Yale, 60, died at 11:58 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Lima Memorial Health System.
Ben was born Sept. 4, 1951, in Lima, the son of to Edith (Dancy) and E. Benjamin Yale, and they preceded him in death. On April 14, 1973, in Belle Center, he married Bonnie Gay, and she survives in Waynesfield.
Whether it was fire or rain, the elements could not put a damper on the Buckland Fireman’s Festival held Saturday in this village, northwest of Wapakoneta.
Firefighters with the Buckland Fire Department responded Friday night to Easy Campgrounds near St. Marys while setting the festival up. They had already been called out earlier Friday afternoon for a mutual aid call. They were again called on another fire run Saturday night.
The city’s Water Fund needs help to make payments on the new $8.6 million water plant and $1.4 million water line improvements, the mayor says, so rates will likely increase later this year.
A review of city water bills by Wapakoneta city administrators revealed the increase proposed by Wapakoneta City Council members is necessary, Mayor Rodney Metz told the Wapakoneta Daily News Sunday, after confusion regarding the calculation of the bill arose during the May 21 meeting. Councilors are to expected to vote on the ordinance tonight.
ST. MARYS — Officials from the Buckland Fire Department are expected to return to the scene of a camper fire today to continue their investigation.
Buckland Fire Chief Todd Vorhees said at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday, his department received a phone call reporting a camper was on fire at Easy Campground, just off U.S. 33. While crews were en route, they were notified there was a male burn victim. That victim, Vorhees said, was transported by St. Marys Fire and Rescue to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
