Roger L. Carnes, 54, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Lima Memorial Health System following a sudden illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1957, in Lima, the son of Theresa (Benny) and Emmett Carnes. His mother survives in Wapakoneta and his father is deceased.
College students would not have to worry about the interest rate on their student loans doubling for at least one more year, if Congress votes today to pass on legislation to extend the existing interest rate.
Ohio’s two U.S. senators favor the Stop the Student Loan Interest Rate Hike Act of 2012, which would extend the 3.4 percent interest for one more year. The two legislators also favor extending the rate longer.
A local shop owner had cameras following his every move this week as he gave his testimony for a documentary.
Mike Smithson, owner of Wapakoneta’s Art Your Mind Design was recently interview by The 700 Club, a program on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) this week.
They were with him for approximately 11 hours Wednesday, filming his story.
“I turned in my testimony, after becoming partners with The 700 Club, and they wanted to share my story,” Smithson said.
Wapakoneta sixth-grade teacher Janet Steinke was able to offer her students an inside look during their study of ancient civilizations.
Steinke’s nephew, 2005 St. Marys graduate Deron Steinke, is a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan for six months. It resulted in a perfect opportunity as students wrote letters to Deron Steinke during his time in Afghanistan to learn about the culture.

A 12-member jury heard opening arguments and testimony from key witnesses Wednesday in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court involving pandering obsenity charges against a Lima man.
Ben Hadding, 38, of Lima, faces two second-degree felonies and two fourth-degree felonies for pandering obscenity of a minor, charges that stemmed from events that is believed to have occurred approximately between April 2011 and September 2011. The minor involved was the 13-year-old living at the same residence with Hadding when he lived in Cridersville.
CELINA — Ten years ago, Botkins resident Rachel Doseck became suddenly ill — and her life depended on a donation of life.
“I was 10 years old, and I got sick,” Doseck said. “I had flu-like symptoms, and within a week, I realized that I was really sick.”
She recalled how physicians first diagnosed her with pneumonia before finding she had a more serious problem.
“I found out I needed a (heart) transplant,” Doseck said. “It (my heart) was badly damaged.”
Eulah I. âPegâ Dotson, 96 of Lima, died at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in Springview Manor.
She was born March 8, 1916, in Allen County, to the late Lola Berry and Bert W. VanSchoyck.

Lester D. Fergus 89, of Wapakoneta, died at The Gardens at Wapakoneta.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Wapakoneta.

Evelyn L. Feiger, 82, of Toledo, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek.
She was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Pomeroy, the daughter of the late Ruth (Hampp ) and John Phillip âFiegeâ Feiger.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buckland Cemetery, with the Rev. Keith Simpson officiating.
A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, at Holland Free Methodist Church in Holland.
