December 19, 2012

School board policies were updated and compensation for members approved Tuesday by Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members.

Compensation for the board’s five members for 2013 was set at $125 per meeting, up to a limit of 12 meetings annually.

Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner said the rate has not increased since 2005.

Natural gas contract locked in

December 19, 2012

An increase is actually a decrease.

Wapakoneta residents participating in the city’s natural gas aggregation may notice an increase in the cost per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) of natural gas from their summer bills, but in reality they are paying less for natural gas than they did last winter heating season.

Safety-Service Director Bill Rains contacted American Municipal Power (AMP) officials Tuesday to determine how the natural gas costs in the city’s aggregation policy increased without city administrators receiving written notification.

Playing on the edge: Wapak slides by Bluffton

December 19, 2012

Despite an offensive and defensive strategy to keep the ball out of Wapakoneta’s “Big 3,” the Redskins boys basketball team pulled out a win over the visiting Bluffton Pirates Tuesday, 37-26.

The Pirates, knowing they were out-sized and not as athletic as the Redskins, held the ball for minutes at a time on the offensive end.

Patton, Tigers squeak by Trojans

December 19, 2012

BOTKINS — Aided by a costly technical foul down the stretch, the Waynesfield-Goshen girls basketball team was able to steal a victory from the Botkins Trojans Monday night.

Led by senior Kaylee Patton who netted a game-high 23 points on the night, the Tigers won the game, 49-46.

With the score tied at 40 a piece in the fourth quarter, Patton went up for a shot and was fouled. Botkins head coach Don Mack disagreed with the call, and let the referees know about it.

Big shot Saturday: Greve hits big shot for the win

December 19, 2012

The score was tied at 46.

Wapakoneta had been consistently trailing the entire game.

When the visiting St. Henry Redskins turned the ball over with about 40 seconds left, Wapakoneta varsity boys basketball coach Matt Bradley knew what he wanted to do.

“We wanted to play for the last shot. I thought we did a tremendous job being patient, and running the play we wanted to run,” Bradley said. “(Alex Greve) came open off of a great screen.”
